Populous can be recorded using software called Fraps, however this only works with D3DPopTB.exe and D3DPopTBUW.exe.
With fraps, the resulting file format is avi, which would need to be encoded ( to wmv for example) using a separate piece of software. This will dramatically reduce the file size (over 100 times smaller), resulting in a file which is ideal for uploading to a web server.
For further editing effects, windows movie maker or a similar piece of software can then be used.<br>
However, recording full games would require a lot of space. In this case, using screenshots to make a video would be more appropriate.

"Doubling" is the term used to describe a player who is attacked by two enemies at the same time. For example, your ally could have fallen and it's just you versus two of your enemies. They're both allies. They both attack you from different sides simultaneously making it extremely hard to fight off and recover from.

Is Doubling Frowned Upon?

It depends. It varies from player to player. Many think that doubling is favoured by noobs. Some see doubling as a quick way of finishing off the enemy and ending the game. However, if two players are to double an opponent they are expected to do it fairly and not to antagonise their target by gloating or insulting them.
History
The start of the team Wildman Productions began in 2003 with attempts at a new clan matchmaker for clan PT (popmaster team). This development was lead by Janhaan aka Doktor, at the time this team was known by the clan name. After several months others began to join into the team, and the matchmaker project turned from only for PT to a completely public project. It is around this time that the official name Wildman Productions was decided upon. After many months of drawbacks and several matchmaker rewrites, Popmaster and Doktor gave up the ideas of the full-featured matchmaker and is now inactive in the team. It is in this period that leadership of the team turned over to Warg and Koen, bringing the team to be known today with many new programs for Populous: The Beginning, such as the first public AI script compiler, level tester, and the yet to be complete Resurrection Matchmaker client.

Populous: Reincarnated has been dedicated to the complete rebirth of Populous: The Beginning for several years by providing new innovations for the Populous community. First starting out with the creation of several new Map-Pack (called New Worlds) and then later creating a new home for the Populous community, Populos: Reincarnated always has, and always will provide the ultimate experience for Populous players new and old alike.

History
In 2001, two Populous players (Hepple and TheGabber) got together with the intent of creating new maps for Populous Online. During this time, Hepple worked out the structure of the Populous level files and wrote one of the first Map Editors for the game. This Map Editor was kept from the public to ensure that only decent maps could be played online, or so that was the original intent. As New Worlds began to grow, so did TheGabber and Hepple's success in the Populous community. Hepple left soon after he made an early release of his Map Editor, but TheGabber and 1/4lb worked together on Populous New Worlds. TheGabber focused exclusively on making maps wheras 1/4lb worked on their website. This website stayed around until 2002 when they moved their site to Strategy Planet and became Populous: Reincarnated. During this time, New Worlds began to grow increasingly popular. 1/4lb left the Populous: Reincarnated team and was later replaced by the current webmaster, IncaWarrior.

In 2003, a programmer by the name of ALACN emerged on the scene with the first release of a 3D Map Editor. This 3D editor did not actually save maps at the time, but it would modify maps loaded into the editor's engine. ALACN joined Populous: Reincarnated in late 2003 and provided them with new capabilities far beyond what anyone could have predicted. ALACN was responsible for developing a displacement editor (used to change the land textures of Populous), as well as a Resolution Changer to allow people to run the game at any legitimate screen resolution of their choosing. That same year, ALACN wrote the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker, which is the by far the most popular Matchmaker in use today. Shortly after ALACN joined in, Khickman joined the team to help TheGabber with the production of new maps. Khickman was responsible for contributing Fate Worlds, one of the most commonly played map-packs today (next to the original levels). On January 8, 2004, Electronic Arts pulled the plug on their Populous online server, causing Populous: Reincarnated to host their own service. This is the service utilized by the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker (one of ALACN's biggest contributions to the game). As time went on, ALACN completed work on the Map Editor. It became the first real publicly used and accepted Map Editor because it was the first program which actually edited the maps and the objects at the same time. As a result, more and more Map-Packs have been put in production for people to play, providing a bigger interest in map-making for Populous.

Over the course of 2004-2006, Populous: Reincarnated has done many things for the the Populous community. Some of the larger contributions would include the built-in leagues table which allows players to compete against eachother by total points from won games. They have also hosted several tournaments including a team tournament and several individual tournaments.

Staff
Populous: Reincarnated's most important contributors have ultimately been everyone involved with them at one point or another. Some of the high points would be IncaWarrior and 1/4lb for their work on the Populous: Reincarnated websites, TheGabber and Hepple for their work on the first maps, Khickman for contributing Fate Worlds, CDPlayer for all of his provided publicity of the game, ALACN for his numerous contributions, and a few others.

Moderators
Included into this category are the main Admins as well....TheGabber, Incawarrior, cdplayer_TA, ALACN and Protonagenet. Other "Moderators" include, Seabass, [TDM]RuthlesSpy, [TDM]walhallah. The latter three moderators work behind the scenes, usually on the forums and helping out Noobs and Newbies.

Contributions
Populous: Reincarnated has provided the following innovations for the Populous community:
*Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker
*Populous 3D Map Editor (with included script compiler)
*Populous Patch V1.03 - All fixes from version 1.01 plus some additional fixes (see: here).
*Populous New Worlds - A whole new set of maps made by TheGabber
*Displacement Editor - A utility which allows users to edit the textures in the land.
*PopCheck - For checking files for corruption in the game.
*PopFix - To fix Populous registry files.
*PopRestore - To replace modified game content with the original files from the Populous CD.
You may thing Solo is hard but it doesnt take much to do. First you worship the obelisk that is on your island, this will give you full chargements of your spells. You can easily kill the Dakini off and steel their boat. If you use Hypnotise try and use it towards the end of finishing them off so you get some followers to your side forever.

Next sail to the Chumara and hop into the [[balloon by the hill. Next use minor spells again to face off the tribe. (Watch out for the Firewarriors). When you finish the tribe off goto the nearest obelisk and claim some mana to boost some of your spells.

Now fly your way towards the Matak and fight them off. After you have killed half of them you can have a mana boost by worshipping the obelisk that is on the Matak's island. Now finish the rest of them off, keep killing their shaman to increase your mana further.

Adaptation is repairing damaged that has been done to your base. It is important to repair your base when an enemy has done some heavy spells on you. Earthquakes can shape your land in nasty ways, to repair use Landbridge to make the land level again. Some of your defence may be knocked out so repair your towers, build more and train new followers. Just remember to keep your base how it needs to be otherwise it will only get weaker!

Sometimes you don't have to fix the land. The enemy might have cast a Landbridge to a hill, but you can defend on it by laying a tower or some troops, it blocks the weak point to your base. Lots of firewarriors, warriors can protect the hill. Towers may be good in case of firestorms, and use braves or even ghosts to keep enemy shamans busy.

Harvesting is on the most rudimentary techniques used in online play. Its allows a player to increase their wood surplus, by carefully controlling/monitoring the cutting process of the trees in the immediate proximity to their base.

How It's done
A player must first select 2 or 3 men (2 if the tree is near to a building or potential building and 3 if it is further away). Then whilst holding down ctrl, select a tree with the men then click on the ground. Repeat by selecting another tree then the ground until the integer 8 is visible or until there is no more trees to harvest.
Some people like to use the last iteration/s to patrol instead of just clicking on the ground/tree. As a result, more mana is procuded due to the brave's continuous movement.

The Landbridge spell, when cast on the far shore of a stretch of water separating two pieces of land, will join those pieces of land by raising the ocean floor. You can also use the spell to create a ramp up to the top of a cliff by standing at the bottom and casting the spell on the top; or you can join two hills together to make a handy defence platform. To Use: Find two pieces of land separated by a small stretch of water and move your Shaman to the edge of one shore. Left-click to select the Landbridge spell from the Spells Panel and move the mouse pointer so that it is on the edge of the opposite shore. Left-click to fire. It is possible to Sidedoor with this spell by join to an enemy's settlement land.
You can also use landbridge to save your shaman's life when she hits the water. If you cast the spell to a near by land just as your shaman hits the water, a strech of land will appear, saving your shaman from drowning

Note: It does not work if you cast it in the middle of the ocean and it will also not work if you cast it directly on your shaman.

Hill Making
There are 4 steps to make very tall hills with Landbridge itself, starting with a flat bit of land.

Step 1: Cast Landbridge just over the ocean, or anywhere that makes that part of land slightly higher
than the rest.

Step 2: Cast Landbridge from halfway up the slope to the highest point of the land.

Step 3: Repeat the process until at desired height.

Step 4: Use a Landbridge or Flatten to make the top flat.
Anyone caught in it will, understandably run around in a panic, thus adding to the carnage. A good anti-base spell.
However firestorm is very ineffective against towers, so it would be unwise to use it against firewarriors sitting in an array of towers.

The ghost army spell creates ghost followers of your own. These followers cannot build, go into huts, or sabotage enemy huts. If they are hit by a blast or get into a fist fight, they will disappear in a poof of smoke.

Using ghost army
Attacking

Ghost army can be used effectively when attacking especially on PP (Pressure Point) where its a common tool for the shaman.
Its often used by casting ghosts infront of towers so that the firewarriors in the towers hit the ghosts instead of the advancing shaman. The ghosts can then be sent to the towers to displace the firewarrior inside, if need be.

Ghosts can also be used against an enemy shaman. Once cast, the ghosts can be sent to the enemy shaman to push her in the water, off a hill or simply to keep her in one place, so that she can be thundered.

Defending

Ghosts can also be used as a defensive messure against enemy AoD (angel of deaths). If your enemy casts an AoD, ghosts can be used to patrol in and amoungst your base. This is effective because the ghosts distracts the AoD, helping to prevent your base from being damaged.

To Trick

Ghosts can be used to trick the enemy. If you cast a ghost near your shaman , then a duplicate ghost shaman will appear. this can be used to trick your enemy , causing them to defend against the ghost instead of the real shaman. Ghosts can also be cast near other units such as firewarriors to create duplicates. This can the be used to fool the enemy shaman in believing you have a stronger defence.

Counter attack Ghost Army
Ghosts are weak against mele, so the best option would be to cast ghosts yourself then send them to the enemies ghosts, they will counter each other out.

Another method is to use swarm.
