Balloons are a form of transportation in [[Populous]]. The Balloon can hold only two units. They also assume the color of the [[Tribe]] or [[spy]] that inhabits the balloon. They also make units move more quickly and also enable them to move over water which is otherwise impossible which makes them more effective than [[Boat]]s in traveling. They also take up lesser amounts of [[Wood]] during construction. Opponents' Balloons can be captured if one of your followers is made to sit in their Balloon.

The Balloon also increases the [[Range]] of a [[Shaman]] and [[Firewarrior]], though [[preacher]]s have no effect in balloons. The Balloon also increases the defense of a unit but the [[Shaman]] is more suitable to damage from a [[Firewarrior]] while placed in a Balloon. Although the Balloon is effective against opponent units a simple [[swarm]] can make the followers dismount the Balloon immediately by either drowning them (If the balloon was over water) or making them run crazy when on land.

If no followers or a shaman is placed in the Balloon for certain duration of time Balloon will explode.

[[Brave]]s enter this building to build [[boat]]s for the tribe. Since it must be built on a coastline it is terribly vulnerable to [[Flatten]] or [[Erode]] spells. It can hold up to five [[brave]]s, each one manning a single [[boat]].

[[Image:swamp.gif|left|thumb|frame|]]The swamp spell will kill any follower that walks into it. After 10 follower deaths, it will disappear. You can delete your own swamps at any time by Shift + Right Clicking on it. Ghosts will not fill up a Swamp however they can be gotten rid off if more than 50% of them are touched by lava, or if more than 50% are sunken into the water.

Huts are very useful for [[follower]]s. The breeding and upgrade rate is dependent on the number of followers you have in it, the more followers you have the faster it gets, all in all a hut may upgrade twice and hold up to five [[follower]]s. [[Firewarrior]]s placed in huts may fire out of it when enemies approach and your [[shaman]] may cast spells while in the hut too.

When hovering over huts to see how many [[follower]]s are in it, there's two bars on the left ('''green''' and '''red'''). The '''green''' bar indicates how much progress there is for creating another [[brave]]. The '''red''' bar indicates the progress on upgrading the hut to the next stage.

==Tactics==

Sending a couple of [[firewarrior]]s into a hut will allow them to be hidden to the enemy. This can help fire unexpected fireballs into the [[shaman]] to kill her on her attacks.

This is similar to the [[shaman]] when she is in a hut. However [[swarm]] can scare followers out and cause them to go out of control.

To kill a [[shaman]] that is in a hut by casting [[lightning]] on the hut then again on the exit of the hut.

Mannually upgrading is a fast way to upgrade your '''''small huts''''' to the next stage. You can mannually upgrade a hut by commanding a [[brave]] to pick up [[wood]] and place it on the hut entrance. The red bar should increase a notch.

Wood are important objects on a map in [[Populous]]. They are used by [[brave]]s to build huts, [[Boat]]s and [[Balloon]]s. Wood is collected by [[Tree]]s that grow on the map. The wood once collected form a tree can be placed anywhere on land in the map.

Wood can be stacked in piles, the game then displays the whole pile of wood when you hover your mouse over the pile. This is used commonly by [[brave]]s bringing wood to [[hut]]s causing a pile to form at the front of the [[hut]]. After an long amount of time wood will disapear.
