Reincarnation, in Populous is a term used to describe the rebirth of your shaman. In Populous, if the shaman is killed, but she has followers who have survived, she will be reincarnated at her Reincarnation Site (if one exists). For multiplayer levels where the shaman starts the game trapped in a prison, the shaman will start in the same location as the destroyed prison, regardless of what is built on the location.

In the process of reincarnating, the shaman expels a ring of magic around her that expands to the edges of the reincarnation site. This ring will burn all wood in its range, and irritates enemy followers in the same way as Swarm. The land around will also be flattened to the same height as the shaman, and created if it is under water.

The shaman reincarnates after:

- 38 seconds if shaman dies to running out of health

- 28 seconds if she died on water, as the dead body immediately ascends instead of lying around for 10 seconds.

Special cases:

In some levels, the shaman reincarnates instantly (this mostly happens in multiplayer blast/light wars levels).

In some levels, the shaman reincarnates after a different amount of seconds (not instantly nor after 28/38 seconds. This happens mostly in multiplayer blast/light wars levels, when error occurs and she reincarnates random seconds after she dies. It also happens in the "community Campaign" level 21, where the shaman reincarnates after 60 seconds, as she is under a curse).

Religious Reference
The concept of Reincarnation comes from many polytheistic religions throughout the world. The two most commonly known religions containing the term are Hinduism and Buddhism. The terms reincarnation means "rebirth," in which a person who has died is reborn into a new caste based on their karma from their previous life. The cycle of birth, life, and death is called Samsara. Samsara only ends when the individual has reached the stage of Nirvana.

Greatmasterbabo: /* Mechanics behind the Blast Trick */

The Blast Trick is essentially a glitch and is considered as such by some people, while others insist that it is more of a trick. According to Stuart Whyte the Blast Trick is an unintended bug. There has been a huge discussion among the popre community, whether to remove the Blast Trick. In the new Beta there is an option you can tick before starting the game to remove the Blast Trick.

The basic idea behind performing this glitch is, to not receive any fall damage at all. By using the Blast Trick correctly you only receive damage of the blast itself.

Mechanics behind the Blast Trick
In the video below one can see, that the Blast Trick does not work in every direction. The camera direction is set on 0.

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXUKWeKC1Iw</youtube>

Looking at the video, one can clearly see that the Blast Trick is working perfectly fine in directions 1, 2, 3 and the diagonal directions. If your shaman is walking towards direction 0, you cannot perform the Blast Trick - the reason for this is probably that the Shaman is flying higher in direction 0, than in the other directions. To perform the Blast Trick your shaman needs to be walking, because a follower/shaman is always blasted in direction 0 by default.

Map directions, when camera is set on 0 (press 0 in game)

Timing
In order to not receive fall damage, you need to time the moment when you cast a spell. Shortly (~100ms) after the blast of an enemy shaman lands on your shaman, you need to cast a spell. The more you are training to perform the Blast Trick, the easier it gets to time the moment to cast.

Timing when to cast a spell - basically directly after the blast effect lands on your shaman.

Additional Notes
This glitch can also be used to avoid receiving fall damage, when be being shot by Firewarriors - usually 2-3 Firewarriors can blast you as high, as a normal blast, so this is the perfect number to perform the trick. It also works with only one Firewarrior, but the fall damage you receive is not high anyways. Four or more Firewarriors make your shaman fly too high though, so the Blast Trick does not work anymore (similar problem as being blasted in direction 0).

Bullfrog's first product was just that as Populous became one of the most famous games in software history and is credited with creating an entirely new genre of computer game in 1989 - the 'god game'. Since that time, Bullfrog Productions further established itself with titles such as Powermonger, Populous II, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper, Theme Park and Magic Carpet. In January 1995, to strengthen its global positioning, Bullfrog Productions merged with long time publishing partner Electronic Arts, and in August 1997, Bullfrog co-founder, Peter Molyneux, left to establish a new development team known as Lionhead Studios. In September 1999, Les Edgar changed his role to consultant for Bullfrog Productions, enabling him to pay more equitable attention to his other business interests. Les handed the reins to Bruce McMillan, a leading light in Electronic Arts' Canadian studio. Bruce was responsible for the creation of the FIFA Soccer series, the biggest selling sports title in EA's portfolio. In April of 2003, Electronic Arts combined Bullfrog Productions with several of its other European-based studios to form EA London (EAUK). |Duration = N/A
}}

Blast is probably one of the most widely-used spells in the game. The blast spell can usually kill a follower in one hit unless it is a warrior or Shaman.
You get this spell by worshipping the Vault of Knowledge in the tutorial, but even if you don't play the tutorial, it is available from the beginning in level 1: The Journey Begins.

Tips
Blast is a very important spell, especially in Multiplayer mode, as you can avoid receiving fall damage (which causes the most damage the shaman receives when being blasted), by casting a spell, while the shaman is in the air. Due to the low mana costs of Blast, it is mostly used spell to perform the so called Blast Trick.

Blasts can be used in a number of different ways, some ways are better than others at different times.

First, there is straight on target. If you click on the follower it will do a homing blast on it and bounce forward. You can use this to kill a follower in one go or a group of followers that aren't near water. A blast always follows the icon that you clicked on, while casting. The videos below show that a blast follows the clicked icon, even if they are already out of range.

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgIPnQRL6S0</youtube>
<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gziab1sudDQ</youtube>

Because a direct hit throws the enemy forward, it isn't a good idea to directly hit a Shaman walking to your village, as she will be thrown closer to it.

Then there is blasting next to the follower. This will blast it the opposite way of where you blast. This is good to knock a follower or a group of followers into the water. You should also use this to blast a Shaman off a cliff or into the water.

Last is blasting near it but not next to it. It is used on followers and maybe the Shaman from reaching you. If some Firewarriors are going up a hill then blast from a near range and it will stop them from coming up. Keep doing it to kill them.

Advanced Tactics
Blasts can also be used to speed up your followers. This can be very helpful, when the enemy Shaman has few life left - by blasting your Firewarriors they get in shooting range faster and can kill the shaman like that.

Furthermore you can blast your allies Shaman in order to faster reach your enemys base. Blasting your allies Shaman has the same effect, that Blast has on your own followers.

Allied vehicles, especially boats, can also be blasted. They get a huge boost of speed this way, if they are moving in a direction.

Firewarriors are created by training Braves or any other Follower in the Firewarrior Training Hut. These Followers are slower and weaker in hand to hand combat than Warriors. They do, however, have the ability to cast the Blast spell and they can target buildings or the Enemy Followers from a distance. Like Warriors, they will not perform any menial tasks, such as construction, and are best suited to Guarding or Fighting. Give them an advantage by placing them on hills or in towers, balloons or boats.

Always keep in mind that Firewarriors cause Area of Effect (AoE) damage. This means that a group of 30 Warriors can easily be killed (if they are in the same Square) by Firewarriors. The video below shows this effect.

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cyv6N-iUUg</youtube>

How to use Firewarriors effectively
Firewarriors can be stronger if in groups and all fire at the same time. This can be done by moving them closer to the target and then blasting the target at a close distance. This is used as a more riskier, but more successful way of killing the enemy shaman.

In the videos below you can see the different ways on how to use Firewarriors.

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlVDZp3MHno</youtube> Firewarriors standing in groups vs Warrior - 00:00:07:31 to kill a Warrior

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Utuo5pBN0</youtube> Firewarriors standing at one point vs Warrior - 00:00:20:30 to kill a Warrior

<youtube>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gsoom-50JvI</youtube> Firewarriors patrolling in circles vs Warrior - 00:00:21:03 to kill a Warrior

Patrolling Firewarriors in circles, like in video 4, is usually the most inefficient way to use your Firewarriors, as they sometimes regret to shoot a target in range. Due to this you should always let your Firewarriors patroll on the same point (CTRL+Alt+LMB+LMB), like in video 2.
However the most efficient way to use your Firewarriors is to controll them manually and bring them as near to the target as possible (using Shift+LMB).

Using Shift for better Firewarrior usage
You can controll whether your Firewarriors shoot or not, by using Shift+LMB. If you run around with your Firewarriors with Shift + Clicking on the ground, they will ignore any unit and building in their range. This can be very helpful to kill enemy Shamans, like in the videos below.
The Landbridge spell, when cast on the far shore of a stretch of water separating two pieces of land, will join those pieces of land by raising the ocean floor. You can also use the spell to create a ramp up to the top of a cliff by standing at the bottom and casting the spell on the top; or you can join two hills together to make a handy defence platform. To Use: Find two pieces of land separated by a small stretch of water and move your Shaman to the edge of one shore. Left-click to select the Landbridge spell from the Spells Panel and move the mouse pointer so that it is on the edge of the opposite shore. Left-click to fire. It is possible to Sidedoor with this spell by join to an enemy's settlement land.
You can also use landbridge to save your shaman's life when she hits the water. If you cast the spell to a near by land just as your shaman hits the water, a strech of land will appear, saving your shaman from drowning

Video: Firewarriors vs Warriors

How to use Firewarriors effectively
Firewarriors can be stronger if in groups and all fire at the same time. This can be done by moving them closer to the target and then blasting the target at a close distance. This is used as a more riskier, but more successful way of killing the enemy shaman.

In the videos below you can see the different ways on how to use Firewarriors.

Video: Firewarriors standing in groups vs Warrior - 00:00:07:31 to kill a Warrior
Video: Firewarriors standing at one point vs Warrior - 00:00:20:30 to kill a Warrior

Video: Firewarriors patrolling in circles vs Warrior - 00:00:21:03 to kill a Warrior

Video: Blast Trick

The Blast Trick is essentially a glitch and is considered as such by some people, while others insist that it is more of a trick. According to Stuart Whyte the Blast Trick is an unintended bug. There has been a huge discussion among the popre community, whether to remove the Blast Trick.

Video: Blast Trick

Shortly (~400-500ms) after the blast of an enemy shaman lands on your shaman, you need to cast a spell. The more you are training to perform the Blast Trick, the easier it gets to time the moment to cast.

The videos below show that a blast follows the clicked icon, even if they are already out of range.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgIPnQRL6S0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gziab1sudDQ

The ghost army spell creates ghost Followers of your own. These Followers cannot build, go into huts, or sabotage enemy huts, but they can be trained as other followers following the same rules as their non-ghosted counterparts. If they take a direct hit by a blast or get into a fist fight, they will disappear in a puff of smoke.

Ghosts are affected by all offensive spells in the same way as non-ghosted followers with the exception of Tornado, which will not pick up a ghost.

*Only available in multiplayer.

Using ghost army
Creating

Ghosts can be created by casting either on an existing follower or on an empty space. Casting on a brave or empty space will create six ghost braves. Casting on a trained follower will create three ghosts of the trained follower. Casting on a shaman will create one ghost shaman. When there is a mix of braves/trained followers/shaman, the ghosts will be created of the better follower. Casting ghost army on another ghost has the same effect as casting on a normal follower.

Attacking

Ghost army can be used effectively when attacking especially on Pressure Point where its a common tool for the shaman.
It's often used by casting ghosts in front of towers so that the firewarriors in the towers hit the ghosts instead of the advancing shaman. The ghosts can then be sent to the towers to displace the firewarrior inside, if need be.

Ghosts can also be used against an enemy shaman. Once cast, the ghosts can be sent to the enemy shaman to push her in the water, off a hill or simply to keep her in one place, so that she can be lightninged.

Defending

Ghosts can also be used as a defensive measure against enemy Angel of Deaths. If your enemy casts an Angel Of Death, ghosts can be used to patrol in and amongst your base. This is effective because the ghosts distracts the Angel Of Death, helping to prevent your base from being damaged.

To Trick

Ghosts can be used to trick the enemy. If you cast a ghost near your Shaman , then a duplicate ghost Shaman will appear. This can be used to trick your enemy , causing them to defend against the ghost instead of the real Shaman. Ghosts can also be cast near other units such as Firewarriors to create duplicates. This can the be used to fool the enemy Shaman in believing you have a stronger defense.

Counter attack Ghost Army
Ghosts are weak against melee, so the best option would be to cast ghosts yourself then send them to the enemies ghosts, they will counter each other out.

Another method is to use Swarm, however this will not work on shaman ghosts.
