Ikani
The Ikani tribe is the unofficial name for the Blue tribe; some players have speculated that this was the name that the developers were thinking of naming this tribe, though it seems the developers will even say that the Blue tribe is nameless. In terms of coding, the Blue tribe is called the Player tribe as seen in Single Player saved games. In Single Player, this is the tribe that the player takes control of to aid the Blue Shaman on her quest, to destroy her enemies and become a god.

Dakini
The Dakini are probably the most powerful enemy in Populous. When the player fights the Dakini, they have (50% of the time) their camp entirely complete.

Vaults of Knowledge
The Dakini have many powerful and useful Vaults of Knowledge. Their Vaults of Knowledge contain tornado, firestorm, Angel of Death, volcano,Warrior Training Hut and Firewarrior Training Hut.

Invasion of the Dakini
When the Dakini attacks, they use a good strike force. On a mission like Archipelago the tribe uses boats for an early, heavy attack.
A Dakini attack force typically consists of 4 Preachers, 6 Warriors and 6 to 8 Firewarriors.

Chumara
The Chumara tribe is popular for being on islands by themselves in Single Player. They are known for their use of preachers as well as some uncommon (by online standards) tactics to achieve victory.

They are on a island to themselves in levels:-

*9: Fire In The Mist
*18: Head Hunter
*22: Solo
*23: Inferno

In level 19: Unlikely Allies the Chumara and the Blue Tribe are allies.

Vaults of Knowledge
The Chumara's Vaults of Knowledge contain "tricky" spells and buildings. For spells, their Vaults of Knowledge contain invisibility, hypnotise and Magical Shield. For buildings their Vaults of Knowledge include the temple and Spy Training Hut.

Matak
The Matak are the green tribe in the game. They are usually the weakest on worlds where all 3 enemy tribes are found.

Vaults of Knowledge
The Matak Vaults of Knowledge include earthy spells and one very important building. For spells their Vaults of Knowledge contain erode, swamp, lightning, swarm, flatten, landbridge, and earthquake. For the building the Vaults of Knowledge contains the Guard Tower.

Demo Tribe Names
In the Demo version of Populous, the tribe names for Yellow and Green were switched such that yellow was called the Matak tribe, and green was called the Chumara Tribe. By placing units of the green tribe into a level played in the demo, users can confirm that the names were indeed switched.

These Followers cannot build, go into huts, or sabotage enemy huts, but they can be trained as other followers following the same rules as their non-ghosted counterparts. If they are hit by a blast or get into a fist fight, they will disappear in a puff of smoke.

*Only available in multiplayer.
**The Ghosts stay alive until they get hit by a spell or get into a fist fight.
**Earlier ghosts you have cast will disappear once you have a total of 60 ghosts. This may be 60x1 shamans, 20x3 troops, or 10x6 braves, or any combination of the above which totals 60.

Using ghost army
Attacking

Ghost army can be used effectively when attacking especially on Pressure Point where its a common tool for the shaman.
It's often used by casting ghosts infront of towers so that the firewarriors in the towers hit the ghosts instead of the advancing shaman. The ghosts can then be sent to the towers to displace the firewarrior inside, if need be.

Ghosts can also be used against an enemy shaman. Once cast, the ghosts can be sent to the enemy shaman to push her in the water, off a hill or simply to keep her in one place, so that she can be lightninged.

Defending

Ghosts can also be used as a defensive messure against enemy Angel of Deaths. If your enemy casts an aod, ghosts can be used to patrol in and amoungst your base. This is effective because the ghosts distracts the aod, helping to prevent your base from being damaged.

To Trick

Ghosts can be used to trick the enemy. If you cast a ghost near your Shaman , then a duplicate ghost Shaman will appear. this can be used to trick your enemy , causing them to defend against the ghost instead of the real Shaman. Ghosts can also be cast near other units such as Firewarriors to create duplicates. This can the be used to fool the enemy Shaman in believing you have a stronger defence.

Counter attack Ghost Army
Ghosts are weak against mele, so the best option would be to cast ghosts yourself then send them to the enemies ghosts, they will counter each other out.

Another method is to use Swarm, however this will not work on shaman ghosts.
Tricks
* Sending spies to the enemy's base can reveal fog unnoticed.
* Sending ghosts (created with the Ghost Army spell) to explore proves to be an efficient way of gaining sight over key areas of the map.

Spells
The three bytes starting at byte 0 defines which spells are available at the start of the level. Each of the eight bits of the byte represent one spell. If the bit is on the spell is available.

Byte 1
In this example (Hex 27), Blast and Swarm are available.
||--------Invisibility
|---------Hypnotise

Byte 2
In this example (Hex 54), Earthquake, Landbridge and Erode are available.

01010100
||||||||----Firestorm
||----------Earthquake
|-----------Flatten

Byte 3
In this example (Hex F4), no spells are available. The other bits should be left unchanged.

11110100
| ||----Volcano
Buildings
Building availability is handled in the same way as spells, but are kept in two bytes starting at byte 5.

Byte 5
In this example (Hex 0D), Hut and Guard Tower are available. Leave other bits unchanged.

||----------Spy Hut
|-----------Warrior Hut

Byte 6
In this example (Hex FF), Firewarrior Hut, Boat Hut and Balloon Hut are available.
| |---------Boat Hut
|
|-----------Balloon Hut

Spells Not Charging
Spells not charging starts at offset 16 and contains 3 byres of data. These three bytes represent data for which spells are toggled as charging on the Spells Panel at the start of the game. Any bit set to true will result in the corresponding spell being set to the "not charging" state at the beginning of the game, and any bit set to false will result in the corresponding spell being set to the "charging" state at the beginning of the game. The user can change this state by right-clicking the icon of the spell.

The bits used for each spell are identical to the bits used in the spells section.

Byte 16
In this example (Hex 27), Blast and Swarm are not charging at the start of the game.
||--------Invisibility
|---------Hypnotise

Byte 17
In this example (Hex 54), Earthquake, Landbridge and Erode are not charging at the start of the game.

01010100
||||||||----Firestorm
||----------Earthquake
|-----------Flatten

Byte 18
In this example (Hex F4), all spells in question are charging at the start of the game. The other bits should be left unchanged.

11110100
| ||----Volcano
| |-----Convert
|
|-------Magical Shield

Fog of War and God Mode
Fog of War and God Mode are stored in Byte 98.

Byte 98
00001101
||----Fog of War
|-----God Mode

Landscape and Tree Style
The Landscape Style is 1 byte starting at byte 96 and the Tree Style is 1 byte starting at byte 97.

Byte 96
There are 36 landscape styles. In hex that is from 00 to 24.

Byte 97
There are 5 tree styles. In hex, they are 00, 03, 04, 05, 06.

Max Tribes
Maximum Tribes sets the number of enemy tribes that will appear on the level. In Single Player you must set this to the last colour on your level or 03 for all of them. Colours go in the order (Blue, Red, Yellow, Green). If you wanted to have only Blue and Yellow on a level, then the number must still be set to 02. In Multiplayer you just set this to how many players the level has minus one as you cannot omit colours. It is 1 byte long and starts at byte 88.

Byte 89
01 - Blue
02 - Blue & Red
03 - Blue, Red & Yellow
04 - Blue, Red, Yellow & Green

AI Scripts
AI Scripts are 3 bytes long and starts at byte 89. Each byte is for each colour (Red, Yellow, Green). You must type the script number in hex for it to link to that script. (Cpscr010.dat = 010 = 0A)

Allies
Allies are kept in 4 bytes staring at byte 92.

Blue = 01
Red = 02
Yellow = 04
Green = 08

An ally equals the two colours together. To make yellow and blue allies you would add Blue(01) and Yellow(04) together which makes 05. Then put 05 for yellow and blue (05 02 05 08).

Level Name
The level name starts at offset 55 (37 in hex) and is 30 bytes (characters) long.

Markers
Markers are the 256*2 offsets, starting at offset 100 (in decimal).
Offset 100 being the x coordinate of marker 0, and Offset 101 being the y coordinate of marker 0.

This goes in a pattern until all 256 (0 to 255) markers are used up.

Populous: The Beginning - is the third of the PC strategy god games of the Populous series, developed by Bullfrog Productions in 1998, and often considered the definitive version. Developed by Climax, a version of Populous: The Beginning became available on the PlayStation in 1999.

Overview
Populous: The Beginning is slightly different from the other two Populous games in that instead of playing as a deity from the beginning - capable of divine intervention, you instead control play through your tribe's Shaman, whose destiny it is to achieve divinity. The female shaman leads the Blue tribe through a solar system of 25 planets, each time mustering her tribe against the opposing forces of the Red, Green, or Yellow tribes - each with its own shaman, and later levels having all three on one world. Whilst the objective is always to eliminate all of the members of the other tribes, there are often only specific ways this can be achieved - through use spells gained from worshiping at the world's "artefacts" ("Stone Heads" for single use spells, "obelisks" for multiple use spells, "Totem Poles" for drastic spell effects, and "vaults of knowledge" for permanently learning the spell); or from building up a land-base, and breeding and training an appropriately sized army to bring upon the opposing tribes. You play the game from an overhead isometric perspective which enables you to quickly move about the globe of the planet you are on, viewing a 3D map which depicts the landscape, structures being built, and people maneuvering about - all done in realtime. A sidebar shows the status of the shaman, shows tallies of the different kinds of followers (see below), and has specific information about what is available to you under the Buildings, Spells and Followers panels. The shaman's spells are granted through mana, which can run out without periods of follower rest, and is represented in the Spell Charge Rate bar. Throughout the game the shaman's most important assets are her followers. The most basic and versatile kind, available from the beginning via the shaman's Convert spell used on the primitive, bearded "Wildmen", are the bare-chested Braves - who build, gather materials, and can worship or fight for you. Later the tribe gains the knowledge to build training facilities, that will allow the Braves to become armored Warriors. These are the best at hand-to-hand combat and serve as the primary fighting forces to be led against the enemy. Along with all other followers can guard your home land-base with Guard Posts, or around the shaman with the G-key guard command. Later you can train mitre- and vestment-garbed Preachers, who convert attacking enemy forces to your tribe (but cannot convert enemy Preachers, who will attack them); horn-helmed Fire Warriors, who are almost as weak as Braves at hand-to-hand melee, but can shoot poweful fireballs at enemies from a distance; and eventually the combat-weak, black-cloaked Spies, who can inflitrate and steal knowledge from the enemy tribes, and sabotage their buildings and projects, disguised as a member of the tribe. Buildings are upgraded as they are inhabited for periods by followers. Braves, by gathering wood from surrounding trees as when they are first built, can reconstruct the Small Hut into a Medium Hut, and eventually into a Large Hut, each different in its architecture as well as size. You construct buildings - Huts and training facilities - around your Reincarnation Site, where your shaman will be reborn if killed to create a land-base to defend your tribe against the enemy tribes with, especially with the help of positioned Warriors, Priests and Fire Warriors, and Guard Posts and Guard Towers. Land-bases can be further adjusted by the terrain-altering spells Landbridge, Erode and Flatten. In later levels you gain the knowledge to construct boats and primitive balloons to attack your enemies with.

==Expansion== Populous: The Beginning - Undiscovered Worlds is an expansion pack released for Populous: The Beginning. It was only made available in the United Kingdom, and offered 12 new singleplayer and 12 multiplayer levels. Fans of the original game have subsequently released more expansions of the game, at Populous: Reincarnated. Wildman Productions has also created some game expansions, including the new, much more challenging, Age of Chaos modification. Some of these have deep modifications which change the colours, landscape and look of the game. More to be found on these mods at Wildman Productions Website.

Mythos
The Populous solar system is home to 25 unnamed planets of varying landscapes, from blood-red and volcanic, to twilight sky and purple seas, to expansive verdant green plains. Unlike the worlds, the recurring enemies represented by the opposing tribes are named - the Green tribe are the "Matak", the Yellow tribe the "Chumara", and the often-dominant Red tribe are named the "Dakini". As well as the names of the tribes, we are given a glimpse at the tribe's language. The game makers also took care to give the followers of the tribe some sort of tribal language, to bring home the theme of the game as a war between primal tribes in the beginning of the worlds.

Review
Gameplay
The gameplay in Populous is excellent. You have total control over everything in the game; where you want your people to go, which spells you want to cast, where you want to build at, and you can even re-shape the land with spells. You can use boats or balloons, or make your Shaman get some excersise and walk. You can also choose which spells to charge and when to charge them.

Those are just positive things, there are also major glitches in the game aswell.

All in all, gameplay gets an 8/10.

Graphics
The graphics are pretty good. We now see much better graphics in games, but considering Bullfrog made this game in 1998, they should be cut some slack.

Still, though, the graphics are excellent.

Graphics gets a 9/10.

Strategy
Populous is a major strategy game. It is, in player's humble opinions, one of the best strategy games out there. There are many different strategies you can use to defeat your enemy. Just choose the right one.

There are different strategies for different levels. On some levels you have to get to a specific island quick. On other levels, you have to build faster. It all depends on the player and the level.

Strategy gets a 10/10!

Sound
The sound is pretty good. I must admit, there is a large variety of different sounds. In the background you will hear animals. You can hear the water splashing. You can even hear the wind blowing!

You can hear wildmen grunting and eating. When you cast a spell, the Shaman will say a different incantation for each spell.

Sound gets a 7/10.

Difficulty
Hard

Learning Curve
About an hour or two. It takes a long time to get as good as some people are, though.

Artificial Intelligence
Good. They play correctly and nicely. The AI may not be clever at times, E.G. walking into swamps constantly, they normally have pre-built bases to increase the difficulty and avoid rushing.

Total
8.5/10

Religious Reference
The concept of Reincarnation comes from many polytheistic religions throughout the world. The two most commonly known religions containing the term are Hinduism and Buddhism. The terms reincarnation means "rebirth," in which a person who has died is reborn into a new caste based on their karma from their previous life. The cycle of birth, life, and death is called Samsara. Samsara only ends when the individual has reached the stage of Nirvana.

Khickman (pronounced kay + hick + man) is a Populous player and staff person to Populous Reincarnated. During his years in the Populous community, he produced three map-packs: Fate Worlds, Red Worlds, and Beyond Fate Worlds. Khickman also produced two other map-packs which never made it into the Populous Reincarnated collection; they were originally part of his first set map-packs, Mod Worlds.

History
The overview of a Populous player and his progression from being a mere player to becoming a contributor by creating new ideas and innovations to help make Populous a better gamming experience for gamers.

The Populous Player
Khickman (often times called khick or knick or knickman by the other players) joined the Populous community around mid 2001. During which time, he would have joined earlier, but the Java client for the EA matchmakers did not work in his webbrowser. After sorting out such issues, he eventually got into the EA matchmaker and began to play online. As he soon discovered, the learning curve was extremely steep; the other players always just seemed 10 times better. Khickman played Populous for two years as a normal player before making any real contributions to the community.

The Decoder and Map-Maker
In 2003, Khickman began working with RedWarrior, who taught Khickman how to edit Hex values to make Populous levels, to decode the remaining portions of the Populous level file. Because TheGabber kept the map editor private, there was no easy way to edit maps. Using a Hex editor was the only practical solution at the time and it proved difficult. While learning the basics of using a Hex editor, Khickman made two map-packs, God Worlds and Prison Worlds which belonged to his set of maps known as Mod Worlds. In time, Khickman figured out how to edit the land with a Hex editor and began work on his first level, A Narrow Passage.

When TheGabber saw what Khickman was capable of with a Hex editor (actually after viewing his fourth level, Khick Chess) he offered him the opportunity to join Populous Reincarnated. Khickman took his offer and within a month of joining (around September 2003), he released his first map-pack, Fate Worlds. At this time, Khickman dissolved Mod Worlds and continued making maps for Populous Reincarnated. Khickman moved his first site for Mod Worlds to Strategy Planet, just before dissolving the collection of map-packs; this resulted in a new focus for his site. Fate Worlds became increasingly popular; it was the most commonly played map-pack, and seems to be today besides the original levels.

The Programmer
Over time, Khickman began learning how to write programs; his first program for Populous was a launcher which allowed people to play IP games through a router (ALACN was responsible for the router fix itself). While programming, he also completed a second map-pack, Red Worlds. Red Worlds was a decent map-pack, it just never caught on like Fate Worlds did. Khickman's second project, which still hasn't been Completed, was Populous Skirmish, which was a mod which allowed people to play the multiplayer levels against the computer, much like the idea of Servant's Cray Bot, but with Populous Scripts. Khickman also wrote a program to convert Populous Palettes to Windows Palettes so that users could edit Populous textures inside of an imaging program.

United by Clan Loyalty
Khickman also formed a clan by the name of Dragon Team, with RedWarrior. Unfortunately, the clan closed its doors last year (2005) when the administrators had their interests set on bigger and better things. Khickman moved on to help out The White Tiger with his clan, Southern Style and became a member, but soon after, The White Tiger decided to abandon the project, so Khickman followed suit. Khickman now belongs to no clan and focuses on helping Populous as an individual.

Up to Now
Khickman has worked with the Populous Reincarnated staff for some time and plans to continue on doing so. Although Khickman really doesn't play Populous all that much anymore, many of his contributions are still valued by the community today.

Khickman and TedTycoon are also working together on programming a two-dimensional map editor which will be designed to be robust, innovative, powerful, and user-friendly for all map-makers.

Contributions
Khickman has made several contributions to the Populous community; here are the high points:

Armageddon Tactics
While they do tend to be rare because many people choose not to have their fate determined by chance, there are ways to obtain victory in Armageddon.
Purely Soldiers
One of the best strategies to make use of in Armageddon is to convert your entire Population to Warriors and Firewarriors; have as little of any other follower as possible.
Training Huts
The best way to do this effectively is to build several Training Huts and then start training as soon as possible. In this particular scenario, it would behoove you to have two or maybe even three Warrior and Firewarrior Training Huts each. Remember to keep spells handy as training soldiers will only use up an allocated 50% of your total mana, which is then divided among all the troops currently being trained. In Armageddon, any time you are not making troops, (this includes the time of when one trained troop leaves the training hut and the next follower walks in to receive training) you are wasting mana.
Dismantle Huts
Since the number of completed Huts in your base adds one brave to your population in the Armageddon arena, and only 199 followers may fight in the arena (plus your shaman) at once, any Hut you have will result in one less soldier being available and one more brave to weaken your army. As a result, it is imperative that you dismantle your Huts before going into Armageddon. This will ensure that you have the maximum number of troops available to fight for your cause.
Cheap and Quick Victory
One of the most interesting things about Populous is that the game is full of bugs; some can be considered cheats while others are used as strategy in today's games. The following tactic is a bug which can be used to kill off an entire tribe before the Armageddon arena is even formed.
Explanation
During the initialization of Armageddon, the game teleports all of the tribes' followers to their respective start locations (the center of their Shaman's Reincarnation Site). Once the arena is formed, the game will teleport all of the followers to the arena, one-by-one.
The Tactic
In order to kill off the tribe, it is your task to send these followers "to the depths" during the Armageddon Initialization process. To do so, you must submerge the entire tribe's Reincarnation Site (Pillars and all) into the water. Make sure you can do this and cast Armageddon before the enemy shaman either rises the Reincarnation Site or Reincarnates, else your efforts will be wasted.
The Effect
As mentioned before, the effect results in the complete elimination of the tribe who is on the receiving end of this trick. When the arena begins to form, that tribe will die off and they will be out of the game. It should be noted, in some instances, Populous will exhibit some unusual behavior after performing this trick.

In Single Player, this is the tribe that the player takes control of to aid the Blue Shaman on her quest, to destroy her enemies and become a god.

Dakini
The Dakini commonly have the most strongest ai script in Single Player. They have also never been in a three player level with the Matak.

Chumara
The Chumara tribe is popular for being on islands by themselves in Single Player. They are known for their use of preachers as well as some uncommon (by online standards) tactics to achieve vitory.

Matak
As far as Single Player is concerned, the Matak are probably the weakest of the four tribes in your adventure.

Unfortunately, only the one version was released, and the author, Servant, was discredited for his work as he had been accused of lying about the software's use of Artificial Intelligence.

After Servant had left the community and the truth had been exposed about Cray Bot, Khickman decided it was time to make a new program which he called Populous Skirmish. With the combination of his own work and TedTycoon's Spell editor source, Khickman set out to write this new program. To get the attention of the people, Khickman posted a teaser thread about Populous Skirmish to grab the attention of Populous fans. The ploy worked and the first version, BETA 1, was released on June 8, 2004. The first release had 25 levels avaliable for users to pick from (Cray Bot only had 5) as well as the ability to fully custumize the avaliable spells and buildings in a match (which was not avaliable in Cray Bot). While the first release had no real scripts, it was a great start to a wonderful program concept and the public seemed to like it.

Populous Skirmish is still left uncompleted; it is unknown as to whether Khickman will finish this program or not. The problem lies in the fact that there would need to be 150 scripts written in order to finish the software, and since that is an enormous task to do as one person, the likelyhood of such a task being completed without help is very slim.

Khickman now helps out The White Tiger with his clan, Southern Style and has become a member.

Up to Now
Khickman has worked with the Populous Reincarnated staff for some time and plans to continue on doing so. Although Khickman really doesn't play Populous all that much anymore, many of his contributions are still valued by the community today.

Khickman and TedTycoon are also working together on programming a two-dimensional map editor which will be designed to be robust, innovative, powerful, and user-friendly for all map-makers.

Populous: Reincarnated has been dedicated to the complete rebirth of Populous: The Beginning for several years by providing new innovations for the Populous community. First starting out with the creation of several new Map-Pack (called New Worlds) and then later creating a new home for the Populous community, Populos: Reincarnated always has, and always will provide the ultimate experience for Populous players new and old alike.

History
In 2001, two Populous players (Hepple and TheGabber) got together with the intent of creating new maps for Populous Online. During this time, Hepple worked out the structure of the Populous level files and wrote one of the first Map Editors for the game. This Map Editor was kept from the public to ensure that only decent maps could be played online, or so that was the original intent. As New Worlds began to grow, so did TheGabber and Hepple's success in the Populous community. Hepple left soon after he made an early release of his Map Editor, but TheGabber and 1/4lb worked together on Populous New Worlds. TheGabber focused exclusively on making maps wheras 1/4lb worked on their website. This website stayed around until 2002 when they moved their site to Strategy Planet and became Populous: Reincarnated. During this time, New Worlds began to grow increasingly popular. 1/4lb left the Populous: Reincarnated team and was later replaced by the current webmaster, IncaWarrior.

In 2003, a programmer by the name of ALACN emerged on the scene with the first release of a 3D Map Editor. This 3D editor did not actually save maps at the time, but it would modify maps loaded into the editor's engine. ALACN joined Populous: Reincarnated in late 2003 and provided them with new capabilities far beyond what anyone could have predicted. ALACN was responsible for developing a displacement editor (used to change the land textures of Populous), as well as a Resolution Changer to allow people to run the game at any legitimate screen resolution of their choosing. That same year, ALACN wrote the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker, which is the by far the most popular Matchmaker in use today. Shortly after ALACN joined in, Khickman joined the team to help TheGabber with the production of new maps. Khickman was responsible for contributing Fate Worlds, one of the most commonly played map-packs today (next to the original levels). On January 8, 2004, Electronic Arts pulled the plug on their Populous online server, causing Populous: Reincarnated to host their own service. This is the service utilized by the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker (one of ALACN's biggest contributions to the game). As time went on, ALACN completed work on the Map Editor. It became the first real publically used and accepted Map Editor because it was the first program which actually edited the maps and the objects at the same time. As a result, more and more Map-Packs have been put in production for people to play, providing a bigger interest in map-making for Populous.

Over the course of 2004-2006, Populous: Reincarnated has done many things for the the Populous community. Some of the larger contributions would include the built-in leagues table which allows players to compete against eachother by total points from won games. They have also hosted several tournaments including a team tournament and several individual tournaments.

Staff
Populous: Reincarnated's most important contributors have ultimately been everyone involved with them at one point or another. Some of the high points would be IncaWarrior and 1/4lb for their work on the Populous: Reincarnated websites, TheGabber and Hepple for their work on the first maps, Khickman for contributing Fate Worlds, CDPlayer for all of his provided publicity of the game, ALACN for his numerous contributions, and a few others.

Moderators
Included into this category are the main Admins as well....TheGabber, Incawarrior, cdplayer_TA, ALACN and Protonagenet. Other "Moderators" include, Seabass, [TDM]RuthlesSpy, [TDM]walhallah. The latter three moderators work behind the scenes, usually on the forums and helping out Noobs and Newbies.

Contributions
Populous: Reincarnated has provided the following innovations for the Populous community:
*Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker
*Populous 3D Map Editor (with included script compiler)
*Populous Patch V1.03 - All fixes from version 1.01 plus some additional fixes (see: here).
*Populous New Worlds - A whole new set of maps made by TheGabber
*Displacement Editor - A utility which allows users to edit the textures in the land.
*PopCheck - For checking files for corruption in the game.
*PopFix - To fix Populous registry files.
*PopRestore - To replace modified game content with the original files from the Populous CD.

Mod Worlds began as a small project in early 2003 which involved making modifications to the original Populous multiplayer levels to provide gamers with new ways to play. The Mod Worlds project was dissolved later that year after its primary creator, Khickman, joined Populous Reincarnated to contribute to their cause.

History
The history of Mod Worlds and how it got started up until it was dissolved.

Level Decoding
Mod Worlds was actually in developement a few months before the public actually knew about it. During early 2003, Khickman began experimenting with the level files of Populous, figuring out what each file does for the level and how altering it might affect the level itself. This served as the first step towards level editing. After modifying the level header files to put any level into God Mode, Khickman released his first Mod World, God Worlds. God Worlds was essentially the regular multiplayer levels with God Mode.

During Summer of 2003, Khickman started learning how to manipulate levels through a HEX Editor from RedWarrior. Since there was no public Map Editor at the time (TheGabber had the only map editor and would not release it because it was too buggy), all levels were produced using these HEX Editors. Khickman soon learned the structure for the object data. With this knowledge he produced his second map-pack, Prison Worlds. Prision Worlds was essentially the original multiplayer levels with relocated shamen and prisons.

Shortly after the release of Prison Worlds, RedWarrior disappeared for a few months, leaving Khickman to complete his next task alone. Khickman began decoding the land data and eventually figured out the structure for land-placement and land-height. With this knowledge, Khickman began creating his first map, A Narrow Passage.

F8 / Fate Worlds
Before the land data was decoded, the only public way to make and then play levels was to edit a save game file with spells and then touch up the objects in HEX. To load the levels, users would copy the level which took the place of a saved game file into their Populous SAVE folder. Players would then join in a multiplayer game and load the map with the F8 key. Khickman wanted to convert many of these levels into actual level files; at the time these levels were called F8 levels. After successfully decoding the land data, Khickman became determined to come up with an entire map-pack of unique levels. After some time, Khickman showed RedWarrior how the land data worked and RedWarrior made his first level, Continental Division. Khickman made three other levels to accompany his new map-pack, they were: Tree of Life, Holy Land, and Khick Chess.

The End of Mod Worlds
When TheGabber saw Khick Chess, he offered Khickman a position at Populous Reincarnated as an Assistant Map-Maker; Khickman took that position and got access to the highly coveted Map Editor. With this tool, Khickman finished all of the maps he was making for his new map-pack. Since the majority of his maps were converted F8 levels which he and RedWarrior had made, Khickman decided to name the new map-pack, Fate Worlds, since F8 could be spelled out as feight, but fate for short as it suited the idea of a player determining his tribe's fate on these worlds. Fate Worlds never became a part of TheGabber's New Worlds, nor did it become part of Mod Worlds in its final release. Mod Worlds officially ended once Khickman joined Populous Reincarnated; if you ask around, you might be able to obtain an old copy of God Worlds or Prison Worlds. Fate Worlds went on to become one of the most popular map-packs played besides the original multiplayer levels.

Mod Worlds Affiliates
Many people helped test Mod Worlds to ensure that bugs were removed. Among the many testers, there were Chirs, lukestorm, MatakShaman (currently RedShaman1), and many others. The map designers for Mod Worlds were RedWarrior and Khickman. During the production of Mod Worlds, TedTycoon's Spell Editor was used to edit the level header files.

Khickman's second project, which still hasn't been Completed, was Populous Skirmish, which was a mod which allowed people to play the multiplayer levels against the computers, much like Servant's Cray Bot.

Khickman now helps out The_White_Tiger with his clan, Southern Style and has become a member.

Up to Now
Khickman has worked with the Populous Reincarnated staff for some time and plans to continue on doing so. Although Khickman really doesn't play Populous all that much anymore, many of his contributions are still valued by the community today.

Khickman and TedTycoon are also working together on programming a two-dimensional map editor which will be designed to be robust, innovative, powerful, and user-friendly for all map-makers.

Over time, Khickman began learning how to write programs, his first program for Populous was a launcher which allowed people to play IP games through a router. While programming, he also completed a second map-pack, Red Worlds. Red Worlds was a decent map-pack, it just never caught on like Fate Worlds did. Khickman's second project, which still hasn't been Completed, was Populous Skirmish, which was a mod which allowed people to play the multiplayer levels against the computers, much like Servant's Cray Bot. Khickman also wrote a program to convert Populous Palettes to Windows Palettes so that users could edit Populous textures inside of an imaging program.

Khickman also formed a clan by the name of Dragon Team, with RedWarrior. Unfortunately, the clan closed its doors last year (2005) when the administrators had their interests set on bigger and better things. Khickman now helps out The_White_Tiger with his clan, Southern Style and has become a member.

Khickman (pronounced kay + hick + man) is a Populous player and staff person to Populous Reincarnated. During his years in the Populous community, he produced three map-packs: Fate Worlds, Red Worlds, and Beyond Fate Worlds. During which time, he would have joined earlier, but the Java client for the EA matchmakers did not work in his webbrowser.

1/4lb left the Populous: Reincarnated team and was later replaced by the current web master, IncaWarrior.

1/4lb left the Populous: Reincarnated team and was later replaced by the current web master, IncaWarrior.

Contributions
Populous: Reincarnated has provided the following innovations for the Populous community:
*Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker
*Populous 3D Map Editor (with included script compiler)
*Populous Patch V1.03 *Populous New Worlds *Displacement Editor
*PopCheck - For checking files for corruption in the game.
*PopFix - To fix Populous registry files.
*PopRestore - To replace modified game content with the original files from the Populous CD.
