Populous: Reincarnated has been dedicated to the complete rebirth of Populous: The Beginning for several years by providing new innovations for the Populous community. First starting out with the creation of several new Map-Pack (called New Worlds) and then later creating a new home for the Populous community, Populos: Reincarnated always has, and always will provide the ultimate experience for Populous players new and old alike.

History
In 2001, two Populous players (Hepple and TheGabber) got together with the intent of creating new maps for Populous Online. During this time, Hepple worked out the structure of the Populous level files and wrote one of the first Map Editors for the game. This Map Editor was kept from the public to ensure that only decent maps could be played online, or so that was the original intent. As New Worlds began to grow, so did TheGabber and Hepple's success in the Populous community. Hepple left soon after he made an early release of his Map Editor, but TheGabber and 1/4lb worked together on Populous New Worlds. TheGabber focused exclusively on making maps wheras 1/4lb worked on their website. This website stayed around until 2002 when they moved their site to Strategy Planet and became Populous: Reincarnated. During this time, New Worlds began to grow increasingly popular. 1/4lb left the Populous: Reincarnated team and was later replaced by the current web master, IncaWarrior.

In 2003, a programmer by the name of ALACN emerged on the scene with the first release of a 3D Map Editor. This 3D editor did not actually save maps at the time, but it would modify maps loaded into the editor's engine. Alacn joined Populous: Reincarnated in late 2003 and provided them with new capabilities far beyond what anyone could have predicted. Alacn was responsible for developing a displacement editor (used to change the land textures of Populous), as well as a Resolution Changer to allow people to run the game at any legitimate screen resolution of their choosing. That same year, ALACN wrote the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker, which is the by far the most popular Matchmaker in use today. Shortly after ALACN joined in, Khickman joined the team to help TheGabber with the production of new maps. Khickman was responsible for contributing Fate Worlds, one of the most commonly played Map-Packs today (next to the original levels). On January 8, 2004, Electronic Arts pulled the plug on their Populous online server, causing Populous: Reincarnated to host their own service. This is the service utilized by the Populous: Reincarnated Matchmaker (one of ALACN's biggest contributions to the game). As time went on, ALACN completed work on the Map Editor. It became the first real publically used and accepted Map Editor because it was the first program which actually edited the maps and the objects at the same time. As a result, more and more Map-Packs have been put in production for people to play, providing a bigger interest in map-making for Populous.

Over the course of 2004-2006, Populous: Reincarnated has done many things for the the Populous community. Some of the larger contributions would include the built-in leagues table which allows players to compete against eachother by total points from won games. They have also hosted several tournaments including a team tournament and several individual tournaments.

Staff
Populous: Reincarnated's most important contributors have ultimately been everyone involved with them at one point or another. Some of the high points would be IncaWarrior and 1/4lb for their work on the Populous: Reincarnated websites, TheGabber and Hepple for their work on the first maps, Khickman for contributing Fate Worlds, CDPlayer for all of his provided publicity of the game, ALACN for his numerous contributions, and a few others.

Moderators
Included into this category are the main Admins as well....TheGabber, Incawarrior, cdplayer_TA, ALACN and Protonagenet. Other "Moderators" include, Seabass, [TDM]RuthlesSpy, [TDM]walhallah. The latter 3 moderators work behind the scenes, usually on the forums and helping out Noobs and Newbies.

Contributions
Populous: Reincarnated has provided the following innovations for the Populous community:
*Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker
*Populous 3D Map Editor (with included script compiler)
*Populous Patch V1.03 - All fixes from version 1.01 plus some additional fixes (see: here).
*Populous New Worlds - A whole new set of maps made by TheGabber
*Displacement Editor - A utility which allows users to edit the textures in the land.
*PopCheck - For checking files for corruption in the game.
*PopFix - To fix Populous registry files.
*PopRestore - To replace modified game content with the original files from the Populous CD.
After purchasing Sim City 3000, he noticed a strange and fascinating demo found in the depth, Populous: The Beginning. After viewing the final credits to the game, and thorouglly enjoying the games "simple" levels, he saw that the game was out! It was near Christmas of 1998 and he received a copy of the game as a present. Unearthing the depths of the game, he noticed there was something "new" about this game...Multiplayer. He never imagined playing this game with other people from around the world! But for some strange reason, he was never good at the game compared to the rest of the "bullies" in the old days of EA/Bullfrog Pop:TB Lobby in '99. His first username was "mail22". To the author it seemed a very good choice. Playing on 56k and occassionally playing online, he was just a regular ole' player. The lobby crashes and soon to be perpetual downage of the EA/Bullfrog lobbies told him to depart from this game and venture off into other games like, Rainbow6: Rouge Spear and the newly discovered joy of other First-Person Shooters.

The "2nd" Wave..."The Huh?"
Feeling the urge to play Pop:TB again, online, he ventured back to the lobby, in the middle of 2000, only to find the place riddened to what seemed at first, a new face. New players, new "launchers", new tactics...He returned with enthusiasim but pondered exactly what his username and password was. He saw that he could register another name.....He chose, RuthlesSpy. Knowing full well that it was spelled incorrectly, he assumed the other players would realize the easy flow of RuthlesSpy then RuthlessSpy which added an unescessary S and made the name longer and unappealing.

The creation of RuthlesSpy also had to do with his favorite follower, the spy. One day he was encountered with the opportunity to join a newly founded clan, Team Nashua. After performing well in a game of Pressure Point with Challengeme3, at the time, 2nd (or was it 3rd in command...) of TN, he was quickly sent a link to register up. Thinking it was a good thing, he sent in an application, and was accepted, almost immediately.
If thats the word....He contributed to the TN forums and was now more recognized in the Pop. Lobbies. AS fate would have it, he encountered TheGabber, who was trying something new, which essentially was "Sand Worlds" for Pop:TB...A new set of muliplayer maps. He Beta tested it and soon became well known to TheGabber. 2001, New maps were rolling out, but sad news was alooming, the EA/BULLFROG lobbies would soon be discontinued. Rampant talk soon filled the fledgling community as to what would happen to this game. Many dissapeared while others looked optomistic for the future.

The EA Lobbies soon was exstinguished, and a temporary time of about 1-2months, there was no "lobby" to play Pop. Some used the MP: IP connectivity, while others used the MSN ZONE IP lobbies to get games...Other used a new service called "Gamespy Arcade" to play Pop:TB....RuthlesSpy...He decided to wait for the "NewWorlds" Client...promised to be twice as better then the EA Lobbies.

RuthlesSpy was pleased when it was released, and continued playing once again. He was an active member of the lobby and of Populous Reincarnated forums (the revamped name of NewWorlds) from 2002 onwards, till present days. He was well known, but slowly lost intrest in the game and soon stopped playing all together and sticked around for the chatting and company. Late 2004, he got cable broadband. On Sun May 15, 2005 he was made MODERATOR of the Populous Reincarnated forums. He was now recognized now as moderator, TN member, and Beta Tester. It all came to an end for TN a couple months later, apprx. July, but it was inevitable, as his intrest in TN wained ever since an incedent in '04 with the clan. He recieved ridicule from TN members, but he didnt care.

The Clan

TDM is a clan dedicated to Populous the Beginning.

History

2002

It was originally found in 2002. The oldest written trace is dated 28 June 2002 and can be found on CDplayers site, where it states:

"28 June 2002
Walhalla and Supertribe have started a new clan called 'The Dark Masters', with the home page at www.avidgamers.com/TDM. As they say on the site: 'The Dark Masters is a new Populous clan under leadership of Supertribe and Walhallah, we don't accept people that are in other clans, this clan is only for Populous players, so we don't play other games. We're competitive and we will try to beat every other Populous clan.'

Supertribe approached Walhallah one day with the idea of starting a clan. At the time, both players can not be considered top of the bill. Walhallah, who wasnt much of a clanman those days (he long held several clan's invitations under consideration) said yes as he liked the idea of something new.

2003
Under management of Supertribe and Walhallah the clan grew to a considerable size of 80 players. Several improvemements were made to the website. Also the first attempts to participate in clan tournaments were made.
To fight inactivity of its members the clan introduced a ranking system based on the Populous system of braves-shamans, with demotion of one rank per month inactivity in order to keep the active members on top and slowly remove the inactive members.

2004
Early 2004, with Supertribe having slipped into inactivity, Walhallah searched for active co-leaders to run the clan and found these in Keith181 and a few active members like Shinak, HairyEyeBall.

Towards the middle of 2004 the clan management was pretty desparate to revive the clan. One of the clan's myths is about the moment in time where Keith181 demoted Supertribe and took away his admin powers.

Somewhere around summer 2004 the clan collapsed at a size of 120 members of which 110-115 were inactive. To turn the tide Walhallah decided to start all over, based on what the clan has learned in time. All 120 members were deleted and Shiana and ThePhilosopher were asked to help rebuild the clan. With ThePhilospher as co-leader, the clan's policy changed to democracy. From now on, all members were equal, with voting and discussing rights on all subjects such as which members to invite. No new member would be invited without the members having discussed about it. This led to a clan of around 15 - 20 active, quality members.

2005

During 2005 TDM has been a very stable clan with many of populous' greatest players such as Ada1054, Basecoat, Chanaman, Genesis, Joe, Robberdog, RuthlesSpy, Smudgey, Supertribe, Walhallah. Many of those players have been training new players and are contributing in various ways to turn the community into a great place for a great game.

28-11-2005 domain "www.thedarkmasters.com" was bought.

2006

Interesting facts about TDM

TDM is the oldest active populous clan, since 2002.

TDM topped at 120 members in 2004

TDM dipped at 1 member in 2004

Included into this category are the main Admins as well....TheGabber, Incawarrior, cdplayer_TA, ALACN and Protonagenet. Other "Moderators" include, Seabass, [TDM]RuthlesSpy, [TDM]walhallah. The latter 3 moderators work behind the scenes, usually on the forums and helping out Noobs.

Populous: Reincarnated has provided the following innovations for the Populous community:

Populous: Reincarnated has been dedicated to the complete rebirth of Populous: The Beginning for several years by providing new innovations for the Populous community. First starting out with the creation of several new Map-Pack (called New Worlds) and then later creating a new home for the Populous community, Populos: Reincarnated always has, and always will provide the ultimate experience for Populous players new and old alike.
The Autobiography of....RuthlesSpy
The player...The person...Who is the "RuthlesSpy"....This wiki will present to the reader the captivating and single view of the man, the mystery...The RuthlesSpy

The Beginning..."The Nub"

The "3rd" Wave..."The Longest Years, TN Years"...
Contributing thenceforth, soley for the pursuit of the clan, he signed on as RuthlesSpy with the Spy rank and boasted of his Team Nashuaism. If thats the word....He contributed to the TN forums and was now more recognized in the Pop. Lobbies. AS fate would have it, he encountered TheGabber, who was trying something new, which essentially was "Sand Worlds" for Pop:TB...A new set of muliplayer maps. He Beta tested it and soon became well known to the Gabber.

The "4th" Wave....Present TDM...
He went solo from thenceforthe till around early December 2005, when he recieved an invitation from Wallallah to join TDM...Many other TDM members soon proposed the same invitation to RuthlesSpy.....He accepted it and became a TDM member...........

The Autobiography of....RuthlesSpy
The player...The person...Who is the "RuthlesSpy"....This wiki will present to the reader and captivating and single view on the man, the mystery...The RuthlesSpy

The Beginning..."The Nub"

He was pleased when it was released, and continued playing once again. He was an active member of the lobby and of Populous Reincarnated forums (the revamped name of NewWorlds) from 2002 onwards, till present days. He was well known, but slowly lost intrest in the game and soon stopped playing all together and sticked around for the chatting and company. Late 2004, he got cable broadband On Sun May 15, 2005 he was made MODERATOR of the Populous Reincarnated forums. He was now recognized now as moderator, TN member, and Beta Tester. It all came to an end for TN a couple months later, apprx. July, but it was inevitable, as his intrest in TN wained ever since an incedent in '04 with the clan. He recieved ridicule from TN members, but he didnt care.

The "4th" Wave....Present TDM...
He went solo from thenceforthe till around early December 2005, when he recieved an invitation from Wallallah to join TDM...Many other TDM members soon proposed the same invitation to RuthlesSpy.....He accepted it and became a TDM member...........

The lowy spy...What is there much to say about one of the most "underated" follower of the game...Not often used in Multiplayer Levels because of it's apparent uselessnes and "cheapness." The best bet to see these followers are after the Level An Easy Target when the Spy training hut is "invented" by the Chumaran Tribe, your next door neigbhors in this Single Player Game.

Your other best bet is playing a game with [TDM]RuthlesSpy, who always has Spy Training Huts available in MP. The forground of the attached picture shows the "Blue" Tribes Spy hut...and up front, 4 followers, of the Spy Grade. They are distingished to the player as followers in black jackets, pants and the accompanying color. To the enemy, they are seen as Braves. There main claim to fame is the ability for them to disguise as an enemy follower, sneak into an enemies base and light huts or trees on fire.

To "Disguise" simply select one spy, or multiple spies, and click an enemy tribes color on the left panel to the right of the shamen "shortcut" icon. The icon switches to a "masking" button and one simply right clicks and the spies middle color slowly changes to the selected enemy tribes color. You can only tell your spy (or spies) to light trees and enemy huts on fire, not your own. Simply select a spy or spies, and approach a tree and right click to set it ablaze. For enemy huts, do the same procedure, approach a hut, whilst disguised, and set it ablaze. If one is not disguised when attempting to set an enemy huts ablaze, they well be quickly attacked.

The spies strength is the lowest of all units, 1 brave can easily kill a spy, bare handed in less than 6 seconds whilst leaving the brave just at 3/4 health. It apprx. takes 3 spies to kill just one brave.

The spy lurking in ones base can be uncovered by simply finding one and left clicking them. Another tactic is to set a spy in a hut and let 'em uncover spies attempting to gain entrance to ones base. If one puts a spy in a tower, there range is increased further, and they uncover spies at a greater distance.

The "RuthlesSpy" Tactic
Bwahaha....I claim this as mine! Simply select a group of 6 spies (a squad..) and assign 3 too attack one side of an entrance, and 3 to another side of an entrance, or divy up them by 2, and make 2-2-2 to attack an enemies base....Simply bookmark each new "unit" and start assigning each to "set ablaze" huts...MULTIPLE HUTS... Ctrl and right click 3 huts for the 1st grp, 5 huts for the 2nd and 3 huts for the 3rd grp...then further this by assigning each ones to attack seprate huts, thus increasing the chaos...By this meaning, the 2 spies in Grp one, one spy is attacking 3 huts, the other spy one is to assign 'em to attack 3 other ones...etc. etc.

Summary
The Spy....Love 'em or hate 'em, there part of the game....So try giving them a chance the next time one hosts a game of Populous: The Beginning....
