The Populous Reincarnated Matchmaker is a application which acts as a game lobby for Populous. It allows users to login and chat to other users in the lobby. You can host or join games with various mods that are automatically installed when you play.

==History==
In the late days of when EA were still hosting the official matchmaker, ALACN from[[Populous Reincarnated]] created a new matchmaker which was a win32 application rather than an applet on a web page. The matchmaker used the same server as populous.net so players could have alternative matchmakers. The matchmaker is not as graphical but more simpler as all [[hut]]s/rooms are formed as a tree diagram. The player list is still on the right and the chatbox is between the [[hut]]/room list and the player list.

After EA closed down their matchmaker server, the matchmaker was modified to use an IRC server, and moved to the Freequest IRC network so players could still play [[Populous]] online. The matchmaker was then updated frequently with new features like [[Mappack]]s, [[Mod]]s, Skins, Private Messaging and many other useful features <ref>[http://popre.net/news.php?y=2004 Populous: Reincarnated 2004 News]</ref><ref>[http://popre.net/online.php#features List of Matchmaker Features]</ref>.

The matchmaker can be downloaded at the [http://popre.net Populous Reincarnated site].

ALACN stopped work on the matchmaker in 2008 and handed over development to IncaWarrior. As of 2014, the IRC room is #popmm@irc.lucidchat.net.

Guard Tower

The Guard Tower is a building which can be placed anywhere on the landscape to give an advance warning of an enemy attack. Any follower placed inside the tower will sound a warning bell whenever an enemy follower approaches. Pressing the space bar will then zoom to the tower. Since the Guard Tower does not need to be constructed next to an existing building, it can also be used to begin a new settlement.

Because of the height of the tower, any follower placed inside has improved abilities:

* The [[Shaman]], [[Firewarriors]] and [[Preachers]] have their range increased
* [[Braves]] extend the look-out range
* [[Warriors]] can call for help, if the player presses B (http://web.onetel.net.uk/~lapinskas/strategy/interface.htm)
* [[Spies]] can unmask enemy Spies and hide all buildings and followers in their range from world view

Building the Guard Tower on top of high ground will extend these ranges even further.
