Boats are what Braves construct when ordered to into a Boat hut. Go figure! Boats have the uncanny ability to explode randomly, usually just as you jump into them. We don't know for sure, but experts are saying that this is due to the "Hunkka Hunkka" wood being used in their construction. The "weartha fuhgahwee" tribe is notable for its exceptional exploding boat range, which ranges from novelty goods to the man who takes his boat seriously.

Many people have never used boats in Populous, don't be fooled by these people as 9 out of 10 of them know how to make you turn boats off in the initial game setup. Most notably by saying "omfg u put on baots u perik" followed by consecutive presses of the holy grail "Alt + F4". To gain a proper understanding of how boats are made please look down below, and no, we don't mean that kind of 'down below' either. However if your name is Keith52 you're excused. ;)

To start producing Boats send a brave into a boat hut, he will then proceed to play with his wood and voila, you've got a boat! Who'd have known that wood can be so elongated and elegant. Whilst his most holy of rituals is going on you can see the completion status by looking at how big it is. You may also purchase an insta-boat pack off E-bay for the cost of an arm and a leg.

Boats are one of the two forms of transportation in Populous: The Beginning. Boats are constructed in the Boat Hut by your Brave's and are used to navigate the otherwise impassable oceans of the world. A boat is capable of holding five followers at a time.

Braves constructing a boat in the Boat hut

To start producing Boats, send some Braves into the Boat Hut. The Braves will then gather wood and begin construction. When a Boat is constructed, a Brave will then sail it to the shore next to the Boat Hut.

How to use a boat

To put a Follower in a Boat, select the Follower and left-click on the Boat. If you have more than one Boat, you can hold down the Ctrl key and left-click on each Boat in turn to put multiple Followers in them. To move a Boat, select the Boat or a Follower inside and left-click anywhere on the water. If you left-click on dry land, the Boat will beach but your Followers will not disembark, unless the followers are already embarked on the beach. Another way to make your Followers disembark, is to right-click on the Boat and left-click on the Disembark icon. Only Firewarriors can attack from boats which makes them useful at intercepting preachers and Shamans before they land. If you are conducting a large-scale naval assault, stay clear of the enemy Shaman as a well-placed Swarm can forcibly eject followers from boats. Also, followers in boats under Magic Shield are completely invulnerable since being in a boat makes followers un-attackable with melee. Boats indicate ownership with colored sails but if a boat has at least one Spy, he can use the "false-flag" trick (for example, one Spy and four Firewarriors under allied colors hitting the Shaman can theoretically make it look like you are being backstabbed since sitting followers do not show their colors). For fast travelling on a boat, when your shaman is inside, blast your own boat and move the direction you want to go. This will make the boat fly and boost its speed for a while.
